Dear Spate Friends,
The Marib Dam, as many of you may know, is the oldest surviving spate irrigation structure. This proud heritage in central Yemen is the prime reminder of the era of Queen of Sheba – serving this ancient empire with spate irrigation.
Here is an urgent call. On 31 May the Marib Dam which is not more than a place of history was bombed by Saudi Airforce – part of its crude and senseless attack on what is a country of peaceful people – Yemen. The attack on the Marib Dam follows a pattern where mores historical sites (such as old Sana’a and the Dhamar Museum) are attacked and partly destroyed. Can we ask you to spread the word and where it is in your reach request the Saudi Government to refrain from its vandalism.
