Title: Bilan et potentialité des aménagements hydro-agricoles et région septentrionale de Kayes (Mali): quelles leçons pour le développement rural régional? (in French)
Author: Jean-Louis Couture
Year: 1996
Description: The article puts water management issues in the Kayes region in a historical and geographical context. The climate change crisis led stakeholders to offer diverse solutions for water management (ranging from stone bunds to infiltration dams). Most of these solutions meet the objective of securing local cultures and cultivars. There is renewed interest in these proposed solutions, and includes Sinonké migrants in France (significant financial group). The local know-how, especially in flood recession farming, and land tenure systems should be better known. The solutions have the potential to provide an alternative to the current migration crisis.
